Ingredients
- 3 large eggs
- 1 cup water (or anchovy/dashima stock for extra flavor)
- 1/2 tsp salt (adjust to taste)
- 1/4 tsp sesame oil (optional)
- 1 green onion, finely chopped
- 1/2 carrot, finely diced (optional)
- 1 tsp soy sauce (optional, for seasoning)
Instructions
- Prepare the Ingredients
- Crack the eggs into a mixing bowl and whisk until well combined.
- Add water or stock, salt, and soy sauce if using. Whisk again until the mixture is smooth.
- Strain the Egg Mixture(Optional but Recommended)
- Strain the egg mixture through a fine mesh sieve to remove lumps, resulting in a silky smooth texture.
- Add Vegetables
- Stir in the finely chopped green onion and carrot for color and texture.
- Cook the Steamed Egg
- Stovetop Method:
- Pour the egg mixture into a small heatproof bowl or pot.
- Place it in a larger pot with about 1 inch of water, creating a double-boiler effect.
- Cover with a lid and steam over medium-low heat for 10–12 minutes or until the egg is set.
- Microwave Method(Quick Option):
- Pour the egg mixture into a microwave-safe bowl. Cover loosely with plastic wrap or a plate.
- Microwave on medium power for 2–3 minutes, checking every 30 seconds to prevent overcooking.
- Stovetop Method:
- Garnish and Serve
- Drizzle with sesame oil for added aroma.
- Garnish with additional chopped green onions or a sprinkle of sesame seeds.
